HIGH SCHOOL DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES AT CAIS/OCSLA/OCHS

Students enrolled in a class on another campus this year should consult your schedule to see which campus you start at on each day. Shuttles run between campuses during the lunch hour, but students must start at the correct campus at the start of each day.  Students taking classes at OCSLA will be walking between campuses. The times for the shuttle will be finalized by next week and published on the website as well as sent out in the newsletter.

PARKING PASSES
If you are parking during school in either of our parking lots please remember that you need to come into the office to get a parking pass. We will begin checking for them by the end of the month.

TRANSPORTATION
Please remember when boarding the buses that they are marked with both a route number as well as a bus number. Be sure you are selecting the correct route number as the bus numbers can and often do change.

ATTENDANCE We wanted to update everyone on how attendance works.

1) Tardies - Teachers take attendance in individual classrooms, this is not done at the office level. If you are concerned with a tardy or a mistaken absence in a class, the best person to reach out to is that teacher directly. If a student is late due to a bus, the student should be getting a late bus pass at the office or at the entrance to give to their teacher to update if they come in after attendance has been taken. If students are eating breakfast at school, please have them here in time to finish and be in class by 8:45.

2) Absences - When calling in regarding an absence please select extension 2 to leave a message. Please be aware that the morning attendance call goes out at 9:15 every morning and sometimes we are not able to pull all messages and make the entries prior to that time. We do check this line regularly and attendance is updated throughout the day.

3) Leaving Early - If you need your student to be ready at a certain time please call and select extension 2 or send an email to the office. Please give the time and reason. A slip will be sent to the student's teacher to have them check out at the office and be ready on 12th Street. Again, this line is checked regularly throughout the day, but please give as much advance notice as possible. We do our best to have your student ready when you need them, but it takes a lot of coordination and cannot always happen really quickly. If you require a very specific time, it is best to give a 5 to 10 minute leeway.

4) Periods - Please remember that CAIS High School runs a block schedule for 8th through 12th grade. Periods 1 through 4 happen one day and periods 5 through 8 another day. All periods happen on Mondays. Middle School periods are only five periods, but on Mondays they run an eight period schedule with half of the classes happening both before and after lunch.

5) ParentVUE - Attendance is live in ParentVUE and you can check current attendance and any updates made throughout the day there as well.

Hopefully this is helpful. We understand the importance of keeping track of our students and want to work together to make it as correct as possible. Thank you for helping us do this as best we can. Timely communication and understanding is key for everyone.

ENERGY DRINKS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON CAMPUS Please help us to manage this by not sending your student to school with energy drinks and discussing the importance of good health and safety with them at home.

FAFSA FORMS FOR GRADUATING SENIORS
The U.S. Department of Education is beta testing the 2026–2027 Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form before it goes live to the public by October 1. Through
the month of September, any student can request to participate online. Students who are
invited to participate will receive an email notification and can complete and submit the
2026–2027 FAFSA form.
This is an excellent opportunity for students and families to complete their FAFSA form
ahead of schedule and move one step closer to accessing federal student aid.
Request access at StudentAid.gov/joinbeta.

HIGH SCHOOL ROBOTICS

MIDDLE SCHOOL ROBOTICS Hello families! We are so excited for the upcoming Robotics season for our middle school students (6 - 8 grade). To kick things off, get student applications, and answer any questions you may have, we'd like to invite you to our Middle School Robotics Parent Information Night.

Please join us next Thursday, 9/18/25 from 5:30 - 6:30pm in the CAIS Cafeteria. You can enter through the black gates on Jackson Street, and we will direct you from there. We'll be discussing our plans for the season, team expectations, schedules, and how you can support your student.

This will also be a great opportunity to meet the coaches and other parents! We believe that strong communication and parent involvement are key to a successful season. We look forward to seeing you there!

If you have any questions, please let Head Coach Elian Carrillo know by sending him an email at elian.carrillo-rodri@orecity.k12.or.us
